Boris and Bill | 2004 | end page
The Ups and Downs of Boris and Bill is a limited edition artist book, comprising woodcuts and screenprints. The books were printed by Perienne and bound (using a Japanese binding technique) by the bookbinding department of the Leipzig art Academy. A copy of Boris and Bill is held by the Academy as well as by the Museum der Bildenden Kunst in Leipzig.
'Boris and Bill was made during my time studying at the Leipzig art academy. The book's narrative was inspired by two homeless men, whom I saw repeatedly during my time in Leipzig. While out sketching in the wonderful public parks there, I would often see the men sleeping during the day. They had such a sense of comradeship between them and really looked after each other. This book is a tribute to them, though they will probably never know it.'
