Drawings can be seen as visual poems, whilst poems can be seen as drawings, created through words.
In this course we will use poetry as a starting point for making intuitive, imaginative and lyrical works of art.
Poetry, with its often ambiguous and open ended meaning provides the perfect stimulus for making visual works.
You will be guided through different drawing and painting exercises that allow you to leave the logical world behind and delve into your imagination through the provocation of a different poem each week.
We will work with a variety of poems, from ones that are distilled into only a few words, to narrative poems that tell specific stories. Each week different artist examples will be shown to aid the learning.
We will experiment with a variety of mark making and image making techniques as well as different formats and paper colours and styles.
By the end of this course you will have a series of images that are unique to you, to help guide you to what you wish to create next.
The course will be run on the platform zoom and there will be an online image gallery where students can upload work that they have made each week.
If you would like to join from a different time zone, you can check out the time zone converter here:

If you miss any of the dates, a recording of the session will be sent to you.
I look forward to seeing you there!
See below for the video introduction to the course. In it I accidentally say that the course runs 3-6pm, but it's 6-9pm!
