Creativity Cafe

Monthly Online, Community + Accountability sessions for Creatives

Starting June 29th, 2022
Wednesdays evenings, 6-9.15pm UK time.

5 sessions, suitable for all abilities, cost £150

Dates

29th June, 27th July, 28th September, 26th October, 23rd November 2022

Do you have a creative practice or wish to begin one, but find that life and doubt gets in the way of allowing you to pursue it? Have you found that your wish to make work goes up and down and that once you stop, it’s very difficult to get going again? I have created the Creativity Cafe for just this dilemma!

Creativity is mysterious and needs delicate holding and containers so that it can be expressed.

In my own life, I have found that two of the key things that have helped me to grow and expand as an artist have been community and accountability. A community of others  also treading the creative path, so that we can support and encourage one another and accountability; a reason to make work, be that an exhibition deadline or someone else holding me accountable.
These two elements work like magic.

We need to feel that we are held in community somehow and not just creating in a void and often it helps if we have a reason to make the work.

The Creativity cafe is a nurturing online space, where you are able to get to know others in the group and support one another on your journey.

During it, we share as a group how we have gotten on during the previous month. I set coaching questions  to help you to understand and expand on your own creative process and work through blocks. There are drawing warm-up exercises as well as time to make your own work and chat in small groups.

Each session, there is also a chance to chat to me individually in a breakout room if you are needing guidance or support with what you are working on and y
ou also have  the opportunity to be in contact and collaborate with other cafe members.

You will find that even if you only make work during our sessions, your confidence will begin to grow and a creative practice will begin to flourish.

At the end of the 5 months, you have the opportunity to participate in an online exhibition with everyone showing a few pieces of work made during the Creativity Cafe, which can then be shared with family and friends and other contacts. A great way to celebrate the work  you have made!

The sessions will be run via Zoom and there is an online image gallery where you can upload work that you make during the month.
So far we have had artists, writers and performers join the cafe!
If you miss any of the dates, a recording of the session will be sent to you.

'Perienne has the ability to create an amazingly creative atmosphere where I feel I’ve been able to produce bolder and more intuitive work. She gives great prompts and small demos and has a gentle nurturing aura that seems to draw the best and most magical work out of people. Despite everyone being in different spaces around the world and just "faces on screens” all of Perienne’s classes have been full of warmth and connection.'

Testimonials

'The Creativity Cafe gave me a nice feeling of being connected with my process even in times when I was not able to work that much. It was VERY inspiring to meet all these wonderful creative people and share the 'room' with them. Perienne is such a good teacher and coach.'
Tilde Carlsen,  Denmark. tildeart.dk/webshop/malerier/

'I found the cafe amazing! It was like a sumptuous fairy tale cafe with teas and cakes from all over the world…..nourishing our creative spirits and our sense of community. A real coming together - albeit over a remote table - and savouring what it is to be sensitive and creative in this world, the challenges and road blocks as well as the glorious individual landscapes. Touching in at the well of knowing that the struggles and fears are common to us all, and being resourced by Perienne to navigate those fears with increased confidence that they are just fears, not to be taken too seriously, but to be heard. Perienne held the structure with such a containing strength and flexibility. She brought us in to our deepest selves through short meditations. From this meditative place we asked and answered questions of ourselves and of our creative dreams as if accessing and speaking directly through the heart, which would have been difficult or impossible without Perienne's guidance and holding of the space. It was such a moving process to see each other unfold in unexpected ways as we travelled together over the 5 month course. What a rich feast Perienne’s cafe table has to offer!'  Ella, London

'From the bottom of my heart, thank you Perienne for guiding us on this journey and for creating such a safe and inspiring space for our art to emerge.'
 Petra Cotociu, Leamington Spa.

'Through Perienne, I discovered how well Zoom lessons can work for teaching you how to be a more conscious creative being. This happened during the first lock-down, spurring real excitement to sign up to a Creative-Café running through the spring of 2022. I was not disappointed! Perienne challenged and encouraged me while she always had something constructive to say. She masters the art of including everyone and yet seeing you as an individual and giving you time one-on-one.
She is patient and quietly enthusiastic, with a deep knowledge of art and how creativity works. One of her true gifts, is knowing how to slow everyone down at the beginning of a lesson, thereby making everyone tune into our individual and collective creativity.
I would highly recommend Perienne’s teaching in any form and space.' Gurli, London

'Such an exciting 5 months! I experienced a culmination of approaches from several of Perienne's courses, coupled with a re-awakening of my passion for textile art. In the Creative Cafe, and indeed all Perienne's courses, her openness and encouragement to individual ways of working is SO refreshing.
Working at my own pace, within the session and over the following month, I have built a confidence to follow my intuitive responses to each image and each section of texture, to allow my imagination to be prompted by the materials and shapes and colours, lying side by side, to realise they nod to each other as to which way they wish to be incorporated. There follows such surprise and satisfaction as the image comes together.
And the support from my fellow Cafe patrons was palpable; we all wanted us all to succeed. There were short chats about each of our work, how we are getting on (or not), about creative talks and articles we have been impressed by, and I found it particularly interesting how questions of another person's work leads to a breakthrough in my own! Each session opened my mind to new possibility.

This will be my talisman. A drawing from tonight to remind me to work and speak from heart and pelvis, from here all things root, branch, the river runs from source, inward and outward connections are created, fox fire ignited, animal spirit guides show up, from heart to pelvis my inner starlight is struck and lights my way. And I’ll remember it’s better when I don’t know where i’m going but trust that i’m going! Most authentic voice from lower mouth! IMMENSE THANKS Perienne for your generous, inspired and original teaching. You help me locate my way.' Katharine Roberts, Devon

'Dear Perienne, thank you so much for your time, attention and great skill as a facilitator and reflector during these weeks of the Creative Cafe.  At first, I felt that I would not be able to be a 'good' group member as I am so preoccupied, and so tied down mentally, but I can report that the power of the group, and your talent for holding the group members in mind, has been very enriching.

I trained as a Psychotherapist and my own experience has been that it can be very difficult to put aside the role one has of being  a listener, a reflector and a supporter for others in order to attend to creative work, but your approach and your teaching has changed that for me. As Amy said, work has become a friend, rather than a persecutor! We might not always have time for it, but it is waiting, and it is an enriching 'friendship' we can return to. You have given us a great deal and I really admire your capacity to  offer so much to others, and remember to enrich yourself.

It has been a helpful experience to relate to a group of kind and generous artists and one I hope to continue.
It occurs to me, that the language used in the group is so very different from the art educational language I was given in the past.

I am making a connection to your evocation of the feminine, a reawakening of a potent otherness that  needs to find a voice and a language in our world. To my mind, it is no surprise that in past times, so many women have felt depressed and unfulfilled.  I'm ranting now! But your respect for your own feminine 'voice' is so helpful and encouraging.
Thank you for starting the creativity cafe - It's brilliant!
Rebecca Bergase, Suffolk  (  www.rebeccabergese.com )

'The Creativity Cafe is a wonderful opportunity to meet other creatives who are working out how to be an artist too. As a gifted artist and teacher herself, Perienne is wonderful at communicating and guiding you through uncertainty. She provides practical tips and a framework that inspires and helps you be accountable to yourself and others. These sessions act as a motivating force for any artist, visual or otherwise. I now have a ready-made artist community which I'm continuing to nurture.'

Zinta Jaunitis, London  ( www.zintajaunitis.com )

'I really enjoyed the Creativity Cafe sessions, they were a lovely relaxed opportunity to meet other creatives and share our experiences.  I found Perienne's approach empathic and a nice balance of exchanging ideas while also having time for our own work. I especially enjoyed the small group discussions, and the meditation and journaling. Perienne provided a structure to the sessions while still managing to keep them informal and friendly.
Having the monthly sessions gave me a goal to work towards in my creative practice which I found really helpful.'  Rachel Sutherden, UK

'I enjoyed the experience immensely and liked all aspects, especially the group sharing when peers spoke about their practise and their struggles.
It is truly a space of shared experience and most importantly a space for genuine validation.
Beyond the sharing I enjoyed working alongside the group and having time decided to achieve some work.
That gentle pressure is always helpful and nurturing.
Thank you Perienne for being so generous with having created the creativity cafe.' Oliver Luehr, Devon
